Free Test for Lead in Drinking Water Available to Residents

Water Test 3d words and a sink faucet pouring a glass of clear, clean, safe to drink liquid in a glass

The New York State Department of Health announced March 1 that it is launching a pilot program that will allow residents that are served by either a private well or public water system an opportunity to have their drinking water tested for lead free of charge.  Testing under this pilot program will continue as long as funds are available. Residential tap water testing will consist of two samples per dwelling: a first-draw and a flush sample. Residents will collect and send the samples to one of the participating laboratories within 30 days of receiving the sample kit. The laboratory will analyze the samples and are expected to mail the results back to the resident within 30 days from the date the samples were received

Complete details about the pilot program are available on the Dept. of Health website and can be accessed here.

Although lead poses a greater risk to children, it is also dangerous for adults. Over the past fifteen years, our legal team at O’Connell and Aronowitz has won the largest lead paint verdicts and settlements ever in upstate New York. We are keenly aware that lead is a dangerous toxin and continues to be a serious threat — even a blood lead level below 10 is harmful.

If one or more members of your family is suffering from the effects of lead poisoning, you may be entitled to significant compensation for your injuries. Call Kelly Mikullitz at our Albany office today at (518) 462-5601 for a free evaluation of your case.
