Child Victims Act in New York: Bringing Justice to Survivors
Earlier today Governor Cuomo signed the Child Victims Act into law. New York State finally has created a way for the thousands of New Yorkers who were victimized as children by sexual predators to seek justice against their attackers and other responsible parties.
The Child Victims Act re-opens the time period in which to file civil lawsuits against perpetrators of sexual abuse but only for a limited time. Victims with previously time-barred claims have just a one opportunity to bring their claims. Those claims must be brought within one year from when the law takes effect. Finally, victims who suffered sexual abuse years, even decades ago, can seek the justice they deserve.
If you, or someone you care about, suffered sexual abuse as a child at the hands of an individual or institution, call us now to preserve your opportunity for a second chance at justice. Our compassionate team is here to help. Call now.
