HEALTH ATTORNEYS TAKE STAGE AT STATEWIDE CONFERENCE

O’Connell and Aronowitz presented a slate of workshops and seminars at the 35th Annual Association for Community Living Agencies in Mental Health (ACLAIMH) Education Conference in November. The four-day event was held at The Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing, NY.

O&A Health Care Consulting Group Director Carla Williams and Attorney Caitlin Monjeau presented a program outlining the Managed Care Toolkit, a benefit for ACL developed by the pair. The two-day pre-conference institute guided attendees through an overview of New York’s transition to Medicaid Managed Care.

Caitlin presented a second seminar that focused on the New York Justice Center for the Protection of People with Special Needs, including its mission, functions, internal structure, and practices, as well as areas for concern for providers and their employees.

Attorney David Ross’s program, “How to Conduct a Medicaid Self Audit; How to Make Medicaid Self Disclosure”, taught audience members about areas most likely for errors to be made and how to self-audit Medicaid claims and supporting documentation for compliance with applicable requirements.

Supervising Partner Nancy Sciocchetti presented a seminar, “Non-Profit Law Changes.”  Nancy’s workshop reviewed the impact of the Nonprofit Revitalization Act, effective July 2, 2014, which reduced the burden to nonprofits and was a long overdue update of statues that hadn’t changed in over 40 years.

O’Connell and Aronowitz participation was rounded out with a presentation by Attorneys Danielle Holley and Michael Kogut entitled “Risks of Partnerships and Integrations” which walked participants through the critical issues to consider when thinking about mergers, alliances, affiliations or other forms of partnering.

The Association for Community Living is a statewide membership organization of not-for-profit agencies that provide housing and rehabilitation services to over 30,000 people diagnosed with serious and persistent psychiatric disabilities.  The annual education conference promoted ACL’s mission of effective community-based rehabilitation for people with psychiatric disabilities across New York State. O’Connell and Aronowitz attorneys have been featured presenters for several years.
