The original offices occupied a few meager rooms on the second floor of
100 State Street with a single telephone. In these early years, Stanton
Ablett was the firm's first clerk and Grace Fletcher managed the office.
The economic climate of the late 1920's brought with it a flood of
foreclosures that dramatically increased the firm's workload. They
represented the Central New York Mortgage Group in the 20's and later
City and County Savings Bank.
As the effects of the depression expanded, so did the firm, handling
numerous local bank mergers, real-estate closings and foreclosures. It
was in this period that the firm started to acquire many interesting
clients including the Troy Broadcasting Company and the RKO Motion
Picture Distributors.
Throughout the 50's and 60's the firm remained a staple of the capital
regions political and economic evolution with many associates going on
to hold public office. Former associate Sol Greenberg went on to be the
longest serving District Attorney for Albany County, retiring in 2000
and Mary O. Donahue became Lt. Governor under George Pataki.
Over the years the firm and its clientele continued to grow and
diversify. The 197o's brought some very notable attorneys into the fold.
The additions of Peter Danziger and Stephen Coffey led to the
development of a world class Litigation and Lead Paint practice. Fred
Wander, who also joined during this period, became the cornerstone of
the Estates practice.
